Five Question Friday: 8/17/12

It's Friday already? This week seemed to go by fast, despite the fact that I haven't gotten much sleep. For some reason Gavin won't sleep more than a 2 hour stretch at night, and it's only once. The rest of the night he wakes up somewhere between every 15 mintues - an hour. Mostly it's because the stupid pacifier fell out of his mouth and ended up somewhere he couldn't reach it. But even if he could reach it, he isn't really able to put it in his mouth correctly. (This issue really is a whole other post I should write about.)

It's Friday which means it's Five Question day!

1. What's the one thing you buy every time you walk into the store?
The grocery store? Apples, when I am making my weekly trip there. I am trying to avoid stores unless I have to. I'm an impulse shopper.
2. If you had a day all to yourself how would you spend it?
Right now I'd love a day to sleep in and read by the pool. But I would probably spend it writing blog posts.
3. Are you a speed limit driver? If not, over or under?
I try to be good, especially because Baby G is usually in the car with me now. But I'm usually over. Unless I don't know where I'm going. Then I hold people up and make them mad!
4. What's your favorite dessert to make, homemade or from a mix??
Homemade: chocolate chip cookies
Mix: chocolate cake with white frosting

5. Would you rather have a spider or a mouse scurry across your face (no copping out and saying "neither!!")?
OHMYGOODNESS just reading this question is making me freak out. Okay, so either one is scurrying, which means it won't have time to stop and check out my facial features. I think a mouse. It's got a tail, but think a mouse would scurry faster. And it has less legs.

Five Question Friday: 8/3/12

It's Friday! We got our move-in date for our apartment. Next Friday! I'm so excited! AND it will be my first choice apartment -- two bedrooms and a den. The den is pretty much like a third bedroom, so we should be able to move a ton of stuff from storage into our apartment and have room for me, Hubby, and Baby G. It's more money, but I am hoping things will equal out if we don't have to rent a storage unit anymore.

Friday means Five Question Friday time:

Rules for 5QF: Copy and paste the following questions to your blog post, answer them, then watch for the linky post to appear Friday morning and LINK UP!

Oh, and remember (pay close attention...this is the important one)...HAVE FUN!

1. What is a must in a hotel room?
I was going to say clean sheets and towels because it grosses me out to find stray hairs anywhere (even when they are my own). But I think even more important is a non-smoking room. I end up getting sick if I sleep in a room people have been smoking in.

2. Which Olympic event would you be best at?
None. But I think I'd make a decent judge!

3. What's your stance on the Chick-fil-A subject?
This is tough because 1) I don't think I know the entire story behind it all and 2) Despite that, I've heard some good points coming from people who are boycotting CFA and those who made it a priority to buy food from there this week. I can see both sides (it's the Libra in me).

I guess it doesn't surprise me what CFA's stance on gays is. I mean, they aren't open on Sundays becuase of their religious background. I will say this has been an interesting debate to see on Face.Book. People who are very accepting of gays have bought food from CFA this week based on the "This is America, we have the right to believe/say what we want" appoach. They believe CFA is just sporting their American right. And they are. The owners can believe what they want and give money to who they want, but I don't believe they should be using CFA's money to support those beliefs. And it does make me sad they are condeming a whole group of people. That also seems unAmerican to me.

Like I said, I don't know the whole story. But that's my stance based on what I have heard. I don't really like their food anyway (except for the sausage biscuts they had at the CFA in college... YES they sold a non-chicken product there *GASP*). I guess this is why I haven't gotten too involved.

4. One thing you said you'd never do as a parent, but totally have.
Let the TV be a babysitter. YES, I have done this with my 4 month old. I'm not proud as I have heard over and over again you shouldn't let kids under the age of 2 watch TV. But sometimes it's the only way I can go to the bathroom or make myself lunch or even eat lunch. I have to pee and eat too! He's only interested if there are lots of bright colors (Sesame Street and The Wiggles seem to facinate him). Or pretty ladies (he and Hubby like watching the Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders show). I, personally, make sure we're watching kid-friendly stuff in the hopes of stimulating his mind. I can tolerate little kid shows much better than my husband. (That's because I still like watching them, but SHHHH that's a secret, Internet!)

5. What's the weirdest thing you've ever found at a yard sale?
I don't really go to yard sales, so I don't have a good answer for this.

5 Question Friday: 7/13/12

Happy Friday! Hopefully it's one that doesn't involve broken mirrors, black cats, and ladders.
Here is this Fridays 5QF. Feel free to participate and link up!
1. What's your view on men wearing sandals (yay or nay)?
I'm fine with it. I don't expect men to have nice feet. I don't really look at their feet anyway.

2. What song do you love but are embarrassed to admit?
"How Many Licks" by Lil' Kim fet. Sisqo -- it's dirty and if you're easily offended you're best not to bother trying to listen to it.

3. What summer camp should they make for moms?
One with yoga, crafts, and nap time! There should be a spa and salon and a lazy river and infinity pool. Oh, and margaritas!

4. What is the most romantic song? (Not necessarily your favorite or your wedding song...)
I can't think of one, so I'll name my wedding song: "Come What May" by Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman from Moulin Rouge

5. Do you have an embarrassing pregnancy story?
My hubby would say I do. At 10.5 weeks I got sick off of my dinner. As I puked, rather viciously, in the early hours of a Sunday morning, I felt something gush down below. It happened a second time. Since I was terrified of losing another baby and because we were supposed to go to Cancun the next day, we decided it would be best to go to the hospital to make sure I wasn't leaking amniotic fluid. They did a test which said I wasn't. They couldn't tell me what I felt, but Hubby says I had just peed myself. I'm still insistent that the fluid was vaginal in nature and I hadn't peed myself. I got to see my little guy on an ultrasound though! We saw a little hand and a little foot and it was the first time I felt a little bit of a bond with him. They determined from the ultrasound that I had a tiny tear (in the placenta? I can't remember now), which probably explained some of the early pregnancy bleeding I'd been having, so some good came out of the visit anyway.

Five Question Friday: 6/22/12

It's Friday! Woot, woot! I have today off and it's a Baby G and Mommy Day. This means I get to be the lucky one to fight Baby G at naptime.

He really hates them. I think he'd hate bed time too, but I think his bath calms him down enough to help him settle in for the night. But naps? Ugh! I've never seen anything fight sleep so much. And he needs it!  I know he isn't getting enough sleep and it makes him very grumpy. I believe he thinks he is going to miss something, although I keep assuring him that his daddy and I are boring so he won't be missing anything at all. As soon as he senses he's being put down he starts crying and the only way to get him to calm down is to stick the pacifier is in his mouth (the pacifier is my nemesis right now). He's good for about 20 or 30 mintues after that, but once he relaxes enough for it to fall out of his mouth he starts screeching and won't calm down until the pacifier is back in his mouth.

Baby G will be three months next week and I'd like to start weening him off the pacifier for naps, but I'm scared he'll never nap without it! I know that isn't true; I'll just have to listen to some screaming until he figures out the pacifier isn't necessary. I just don't know if I'm up for that quite yet. Luckily, he rarely uses it at night.

Anywhoo. It's Five Question Friday time!

1. What do you keep a stock pile of?
Toiletries from hotels. I really don't ever use them. Well, I usually use the lotion; those are great to keep in your purse! But I have half a drawer full of shampoo, conditioner, shower caps, and mouth wash in the bathroom. I have to take the toiletries whenever I stay in a hotel, because, well, I might end up with a house guest that needs something! (Plus, I figure I paid for it!)

2. If Ben & Jerry asked you to invent an ice cream, what would it be?
Long Island Ice Tea. (MMMMmmmm, that sounds really good...I miss drinking.)

3. How do you blow off steam?
I like to throw things and slam doors. But Hubby doesn't approve of that, so I'll vent to whoever will listen. Working out helps too, but I have more time to complain than work out these days!

4. What would you do if you had an hour to yourself anywhere within a ten mile radius of your home...no kids, no hubby, just you?
I think I'd go get a massage. If I had more time and could go further than 10 miles I'd hop on a plane and go somewhere.

5. When you were 16, what was your curfew in the summertime?
I believe it was 11:30. (Ahh, to be 16 again. I was just thinking about being 16. I kind of want to go back to that time.)

Five Question Friday - 6/1/12

My almost-full week is almost over! Finally! It's funny how short weeks can sometimes feel longer than full ones. Having Monday off for Memorial Day totally messed with me. I thought Monday was Sunday. I sent Hubby to the office supply store according to their Sunday hours and asked him to get me breakfast from the fast food place across the street, thinking there was still an hour left before lunch would start being served. Luckily he figured out Monday was not Sunday and bought breakfast before going to get us some new printer ink. Then I thought Wednesday was Thursday and was a little confused at work as to why certain things weren't happening. Oi! I'm really not looking forward to my first full week back at work next week. I think having three day work weeks is pretty awesome!

Anyhoo, here are this week's questions for Five Question Friday!

What were you scared of as a kid?
Shots. And being home alone. Does anyone remember the show "Rescue 911"? I watched that once and there was an episode about someone who's home was being broken into so she hid under the bed and called 911. The first time I was left home alone for more than an hour I heard a noise. The dog and I hid under the bed for at least an hour before my mom came back home.

2. Do you sleep well in a hotel?
If I have my own pillow and blanket I usually do.

3. If you could meet any celebrity, dead or alive, who and why?
I'd really like to meet Rob Thomas. I've turned to his/Matchbox 20's music so much over the last 13 years. He writes songs that I have been able to really relate to and I'd love to thank him for that.

And Big Bird. I really want to give him a hug.

4. It's a hot summer day. Do you prefer to be pool side or at the beach?
I like both. I like sitting at the beach and listening/watching the ocean. The ocean scares me though. Too many times being toppled over by waves as a kid. And it's salty. I throw up every time I accidently get ocean water in my mouth.

I love the pool because the water is clean (or chlorinated at least!).
5. What is your favorite summer dish?
Grilled chicken and grilled vegetables!

I've figured out how to get the linky thing working on my blog. Feel free to participate and have a wonderful weekend!

Five Question Friday: 5/25/12

It's Friday! I am so happy that this week is over. I went back to work on Wednesday and it's been so hard leaving Baby G knowing I really can't go back and be with him after a couple of hours if I wanted to. Today was the first time he stayed awake on the drive to my parent's house and of course when I was about to leave he started smiling and giggling at me. So hard!

On the bright side, it's a three day weekend! Yay! And it's time for Five Question Friday. Feel free to participate by clicking on the Five Question Friday picture on the lower right of my blog!

1. Are you a napper?

I wasn't until I got pregnant. And now that I have a baby that keeps me up at night and wakes me up earlier than I want on most days, I try and nap when I can!

2. What was your favorite subject in school? Most hated?
I loved art, and later photography. I absolutely hated math.

3. Did you have the something old new borrowed and blue at your wedding? What were they?
I did!

Old: underwear
New: dress, shoes, veil
Borrowed: a silver sixpence I put in my shoe for good luck
Blue: my wedding dress had a blue train and trim. My shoes were blue and my tiara had blue gems in it.

4. What one thing are you determined to do this summer?
Start Couch to 5k! I wanted to do it last year but by the time I felt well enough after my D&C I got pregnant again.

5. Ice cream or Popsicles?Popsicles, but I love both!

Happy Friday everybody!

AC!
4. What did you (or your wife) crave most while pregnant?
Chocolate chip cookies and apples

Hmm.. I'd say Clare Huxtable.

Five Question Friday: 5/4/12

It's Friday.

Now that it's May I am sadly counting down the days before I have to return to work. This week went by really fast, and I have a feeling the next two and a half will go by just as quickly.

But on the positive side of things, it's time for Five Question Friday!

1. What did you wear to prom? Include a picture if possible.
My junior prom: a gold dress that poofed out just a bit
My senior prom: a shimmery white, empire waisted dress. I was lucky enough to be able to wear the this dress a couple more times to sorority banquets.
2. Would you rather be on the biggest loser or a food eating challenge?
The Biggest Loser! I'd feel a much bigger sense of accomplishment. And with Biggest Loser, everybody wins!
3. Done fave sonic drink? Refreshing summer drink? (Hey, Kristina...was that a typo, or some "done good" Southern thing?)
I don't have a Sonic close by. But I love me some margaritas!

4. What was your first car, and what did you call it?
My first car was a periwinkle Hyundai Excel. I didn't have a name for it though.
5. What's one thing your child or spouse does that sends you over the edge?
One thing? *wink* Well, the fact that my husband can sleep in the same room as Baby G and sleep through his grunts, groans, shrieks, and cries sends me over the edge most mornings around 4am.

Five Question Friday: 4/27/12

Another week is almost at an end, so here are my answers for this week's Five Question Friday. As always, feel free to participate! Just click on the icon in the lower right of my blog.
1. Do you make your kids finish all the food on their plates?

I don't have to worry about this yet. I guess I could make Baby G empty at least one boob before letting him go to bed or playing with him a little but, but I've realized this week that he is pretty much done within 10 minutes. I don't think he completely empties either boob like I've read he should ideally do, but if he goes more than 10 minutes he spits up. A lot.

2. Do you give an allowance?

I really didn't get one when I was little. I did things for my parents in order to get money. I'll probably do the same with my kids. I feel that things such as putting clothes in the hamper and setting the table should be done without pay.

3. Do you actually park your car in the garage?

Since my parking spot is in a parking garage, yes!

4. What is one food you will NEVER cook?

Seafood. I don't eat it and I have no desire to cook it.

5. Do you have anything exciting planned for the summer?

Hopefully moving into a bigger place! We're waiting to see if the bank will approve our request for a short sale and if they do we'll (finally) be house hunting.

Five Question Friday - 4/13/12

I'm really, really hoping to write a post about labor, post labor, and how things have been since we brought Baby G home with us soon. But G is going through a phase of wanting to feed every hour which makes sitting down at a computer a little difficult. So, while I wait for my potato to heat up in the microwave for a quick lunch, here's this week's Five Question Friday. Feel free to click the link to the right of my blog and participate!

1. Who mows your grass? The landscapers. I live in a condo so I haven't had the pleasure of mowing the lawn yet.

2. Do you have a picture wall or picture gallery in your house? No. I'd like one, but I'm trying to keep the condo in as sellable condition as possible so we don't have to do things like patch holes and repaint walls when we are ready to move.

3. What book has influenced your thinking the most? Or, what blog? Wow! Great question. I can't think of a particular book that has influenced me, but the Stirrup Queens' blog has definitely given me a few things to ponder over the last few months.

4. Do you have allergies? If so, how do you handle it this time of year? I do. And they usually don't show up in the normal way (sneezing, itchy eyes). When my allergies flair up I get fluid in my ears which makes me dizzy and nauseous. Claratin has been the only thing I could take since I was pregnant. I'm hoping I can go back on a prescription nasal spray soon!

5. What's your go to meal to cook in an hurry? Spaghetti. It's pretty much the only thing I can make without burning anything!

Five Question Friday - 3/23/12

I don't have an excuse not to do these fun surveys I love doing do much now. Here's today's 5 Question Friday:

1. If you were free to just hop in the car and drive, where would you go? Or, if you could hop a plane and go anywhere, where?
It's so hard to choose just one place. There are two places I really long to go to right now. It would be a long drive, but by car I'll choose Key West. Hubby and I were there for half a day on our honeymoon cruise and it's where I'd like to renew our vows when we hit our 10 year anniversary. By plane I'm going with England. I have this really big urge to visit the family I have there. I wish plane tickets weren't so expensive! If we weren't having Little Guy I'd be asking Hubby if we could use our tax return to fly out there this year.

2. What's your most recently read favorite book?
Recently read? I don't think I've recently read a book that I really liked. That's a bummer. I read a Bradley Method book last month and found it to be interesting, but I wouldn't run out and tell people to read it. I'm waiting my turn to borrower The Hunger Games from the library. Everyone I know who has read the book has loved it, so I thought I'd hop on the bandwagon.

3. What's your favorite Spring Break memory?
I don't know if I have one. We never went anywhere for Spring Break. I think I just liked not having to go to school. How sad?!

4. What do you put in your child's Easter basket? Or, for those w/o kids, what was put in your childhood basket?
If Little Guy is born before Easter I so want to make him an Easter basket. I don't know what you'd put in a newborn's Easter basket, but I would love to make him one just the same. My family didn't really do the Easter basket thing. We'd have an Easter Egg Hunt around the house or in the back yard and my parents...Errr, the Easter Bunny...would often leave us some kind of chocolate at our places at the dinner table. If we got Easter baskets, they were from relatives and were of the store bought variety.

5. Do you get a summer haircut?
No. I always tell myself to go every eight weeks, but I always go a lot longer than that between hair cuts. I usually go in when I notice split ends.

Those are my answers. What are yours? Feel free to click on the button to the right and participate yourself!

Five Question Friday: 3/16/12

Yay! It's Friday and I'm remembering to do Five Question Friday. I promise I will post something with more substance soon. I have about five posts started. I just need time to finish them!
1. Will you run to the store or to pick up a kid looking a mess?
I'd go to work looking a mess if I could! I have no problem running around with no make up, sweats, and my hair pulled back in a pony tail because I haven't brushed it yet.
2. Do you finish a book if it's boring or you don't like it?
If I'm reading for myself, yes. But I belong to a book club at work and I will do my best to finish the book. I've learned to love the library again -- I don't ever have to feel bad returning a book I didn't like since I didn't spend the money on it.

3. Beach or mountain vacations?
I've never really been on a mountain vacation. I love going to the beach even though the ocean scares me.
4. What thing/event says "winter will end and spring is right around the corner" to you?
The buds on the trees coming through and daffodils sprouting up.
5. Would you prefer couples or family vacation?
Neither! I'm sure I'll prefer one over the other when Little Guy arrives. But right now I prefer going on trips with Hubby only.

Five Question Friday

I am so excited to have found a couple of blogs that do weekly questions. These things remind me of the personal surveys that were forwarded through email, back when email was new and exciting. I L.O.V.E.D. filling those things out! This week I am getting my questions from My Little Life and her Five Question Friday. Feel free to click on the little icon to the right and participate yourself!

Here are this week's questions and my answers:

1. Are you looking forward to the time change this weekend? Heck no! I need all the sleep I can get before Little Guy gets here.

2. Are you getting the new iPad/would you want a iPad? I'm sort of interested in one, but I won't be buying it.

3. If money was not a problem, what is the one thing you would splurge on? Oh my. I have to pick one? Hmm. Probably a new house. Once Little Guy gets here Hubby and I need to make a decision on what to do with our current residence. It's a one bedroom condo and it's already cramped with the baby's stuff mixed in with all of ours.

4. How did you and the Mr. (or Mrs.) meet? I met Mr. back in high school when I was a sophomore and he was a junior. We were in the same American Sign Language class. Our class was kind of split -- the "cool" kids sat on one side of the room and the "not so cool" kids on the other. One day our teacher made me sit on the "cool" kids side, next to Hubby. He said "Hey" and I wondered why the hell a football player was acknowlging my presence. The next school year he asked me out and we were together until a few months before I graduated. We went to the same college and had, what I like to consider, a pretty classic Ross/Rachel relationship (on again off again) until six years ago when he finally got his act together enough to

5. Summer is right around the corner. Bikini or one-piece? I am desperately hoping that I will be able to fit into my tankini when summer rolls around. I don't know how much pool time I'll have with an infant, but I would like to try and get some in while we still have a pool to go to, and I would rather not spend the money or the time getting a new bathing suit.
